El FortiGate 4400F es el firewall NGFW de mayor densidad 100GE de la serie 4000 de Fortinet: un appliance rack 4U acelerado por los ASIC NP7 y CP9 que entrega 1.15 Tbps de throughput de firewall, 94 Gbps de IPS, 82 Gbps de NGFW y 75 Gbps de threat protection sobre tráfico Enterprise Mix. Su conectividad son 12 slots 100GE QSFP28 / 40GE QSFP+ acelerados por hardware, 16 slots 25GE SFP28 / 10GE SFP+ / GE SFP, 2 puertos HA y 2 puertos AUX SFP28, y 2 puertos GE RJ45 de management, con cuatro fuentes AC hot-swap en redundancia 2+2.
El salto del 4400F frente al resto de la serie 4000 no está en el chasis sino en la densidad de conectividad de 100 gigabits: doce slots QSFP28 contra los ocho del 4200F, y con ellos un throughput de firewall que cruza la barrera del terabit (1.15 Tbps con paquetes de 1518 B) y 750 millones de paquetes por segundo. Es el equipo que se pone donde el tráfico ya no cabe en enlaces de 10 o 25 GE: el núcleo de un data center, el borde de un carrier, el punto de interconexión entre zonas de seguridad de una red de gran escala. La inspección también sube de nivel — 94 Gbps de IPS y 86 Gbps de inspección SSL con 70 000 conexiones nuevas por segundo — porque el CP9 descarga el descifrado TLS 1.3 que de otro modo tumbaría a cualquier CPU de propósito general. Con la licencia Hyperscale Firewall el NP7 acelera CGNAT por hardware y las sesiones concurrentes escalan de 210 a 700 millones. Sus cuatro fuentes AC operan en redundancia 2+2 y tanto ellas como la bandeja de ventiladores se cambian en caliente.

El 4400F es el primer FortiGate de la serie 4000 que pasa del terabit de firewall y el único con doce slots 100GE. Frente al 4200F, sube 50 % la densidad QSFP28, 44 % el throughput de firewall y 81 % el IPS, a cambio de una unidad de rack más y un chasis con cuatro fuentes.
